Balloon Tour Experience Step by Step
1. Early Morning Departure (04:30-05:00)
Your balloon tour experience begins with early morning pickup from your hotel. About 1-1.5 hours before sunrise, you'll be picked up from your hotel with our comfortable vehicles and taken to the balloon launch area. These early hours provide ideal conditions for both safety and scenery.
Early Departure Tip
Prepare your clothes the night before and sleep early. Since breakfast is provided on the tour, there's no problem going on an empty stomach. Inform the hotel reception about your early departure time the night before.
2. Balloon Preparation Process (05:00-05:30)
When you arrive at the launch area, you'll have the opportunity to watch the balloon inflation process. This magical process involves giant balloons slowly taking shape and preparing to rise into the sky. Our pilots will give you safety briefing and detailed information about the flight during this process.
During this process, a light breakfast box and hot drinks are also served. While gathering your energy with coffee, tea and small snacks, you can watch other balloons being prepared around you.
3. Safety Briefing
Before the flight, comprehensive safety briefing is given by our experienced pilots. This briefing includes:
- Basket Position: How to stand and hold on during flight
- Landing Procedure: Position to take during landing
- Emergency Procedures: Possible emergencies and what to do
- Photography: Safe photography techniques
- Communication Rules: How to communicate with pilot
4. Magical Flight Experience (05:30-06:30)
This unique experience, which begins with the balloon slowly rising, lasts approximately 50-60 minutes. Experiences you'll have during the flight:
Initial Ascent (0-10 minutes): The balloon slowly rising from the ground and Cappadocia's panoramic view beginning to unfold. These moments are usually the most exciting and emotional.
Maximum Altitude (10-40 minutes): At approximately 1000 meters high, opportunity to see all the beauties of Cappadocia from bird's eye view. Fairy chimneys, valleys, ancient settlements and other balloons create a magnificent view.
Low Flight (40-50 minutes): Flying low between valleys, opportunity to see rock formations and details up close. The best photos are taken in this section.
Photography Tips
- Shoot at sunrise - golden light gives the best results
- Include other balloons in the frame - creates magnificent compositions
- Shoot from different angles to show the depth of valleys
- Don't use selfie sticks - creates safety risk
- Ask your pilot for the best shooting points
5. Safe Landing and Celebration
At the end of the flight, our pilot makes a landing in a safe area. During landing, it's important to take the position taught beforehand. Landing is usually very smooth and no discomfort is experienced.
After landing, traditional champagne ceremony is held. This tradition is a ritual that has continued since the early days of ballooning and celebrates the successful completion of your flight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is balloon tour safe?
Yes, balloon tours are very safe. All our pilots are SHGM licensed and have minimum 500 hours flight experience. Our balloons are checked daily and maintained according to international safety standards. No serious accidents have occurred in the last 10 years.
What happens if weather conditions are not suitable?
Since safety is our priority, tours are cancelled in unsuitable weather conditions. In this case, alternative dates are offered or full refund is made. Cancellation decision is usually made on the tour morning and you are immediately informed.
Can children participate in balloon tour?
Children 6 years and older can participate in balloon tour. However, children must be tall enough to look out over the basket edge. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Can pregnant women participate?
Pregnant women are not recommended to participate in balloon tour. Shocks during landing and altitude may pose risks during pregnancy.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, layered clothing. Bring a light jacket as it's cooler at altitude. Closed shoes are mandatory, don't wear high heels or sandals. Hat and sunglasses will also be useful.
Can I take photos?
Of course! Photography is free and encouraged. However, don't use selfie sticks for safety reasons. Don't forget to check your camera's battery and memory card. The best photos are taken at sunrise.
I have acrophobia (fear of heights), can I participate?
Balloon flight is a different experience from airplanes or tall buildings. Most people don't experience discomfort due to slow ascent and quiet flight. However, if you have serious fear of heights, we recommend consulting your doctor.
How far in advance should I make a reservation?
We recommend making reservations at least 2-3 days in advance during summer months (April-October). You can be more flexible in winter months. Earlier reservations may be needed for special days (birthdays, marriage proposals).
Are Cappadocia balloon tours safe?
Yes, they are extremely safe. Our flights are carried out by licensed, experienced pilots with balloons that comply with international safety standards, supervised by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Flights are strictly canceled when weather conditions are not suitable.
How long does the balloon tour last?
The standard flight time is approximately 60 minutes. However, the entire experience, including hotel transfers, breakfast, and celebration, takes about 3-4 hours.
Can children join the balloon tour?
Generally, children over the age of 6 can join the tour accompanied by their parents. It is not suitable for younger children for safety reasons.
At what wind speed are balloon flights cancelled?
Flights are cancelled when surface wind speeds exceed 10 knots (18.5 km/h) or when upper-level winds exceed 20 knots. The Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) monitors conditions and makes the final call by 05:00 AM on the day of the flight. In 2025, approximately 15-20% of flights were cancelled due to weather, with the highest cancellation rates in January-February (up to 40%) and the lowest in July-September (under 5%).
What do the colored flags at the balloon launch site mean?
Green flag means conditions are ideal for flight. Yellow flag indicates marginal conditions — the pilot will make a final assessment. Red flag means flights are cancelled. These flags follow international aviation safety protocols established by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).
Standard vs Deluxe balloon flight — what is the difference?
Standard flights carry 16-24 passengers in a large basket and last approximately 60 minutes. Deluxe/VIP flights carry 8-12 passengers in a smaller basket, offering more space, longer flight time (up to 90 minutes), and a higher maximum altitude. Deluxe flights typically cost €200-250 compared to €150-180 for standard flights.
What is the maximum altitude during the balloon flight?
Standard flights reach 300-500 meters above ground level. Deluxe flights may reach up to 800 meters. The pilot adjusts altitude throughout the flight to provide different perspectives — low-level passes over fairy chimneys and high-altitude panoramic views of the valleys.
